Government & Public Sector ICAT Consulting

Museum of Science and Technology

The Museum of Science and Technology engaged our ICAT consulting team to provide end-to-end technology planning and integration support for a major facility initiative. Our role began with defining detailed requirements in collaboration with museum stakeholders to understand exhibit needs, visitor experience goals, and operational requirements for both front-of-house and back-of-house areas.

Based on these requirements, we developed the full design for all audio-visual and security systems, including exhibit AV, presentation technologies, surveillance systems, access control, and supporting infrastructure. We ensured that these systems were designed to work cohesively and align with the architectural intent of the new or renovated spaces.

Our team also integrated the technology scope into the overall construction package, coordinating closely with the design and engineering consultants to ensure all systems were properly reflected in construction documents. During implementation, we provided project management oversight of the contractors, helping coordinate installation activities, resolve integration issues, and maintain alignment with the project schedule and design intent through to completion.

  • ICAT consulting focuses on the planning and integration of Information, Communications, and Audio-Visual Technology within buildings and organizations. It ensures that IT infrastructure, collaboration systems, and AV technologies are designed to work together securely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational needs.

  • Ideally, ICAT consulting is engaged early in a project, during the planning or design phase of a new building, renovation, or technology upgrade. Early involvement helps ensure that technology infrastructure, cabling pathways, equipment spaces, and system requirements are properly coordinated with architectural and engineering designs

  • ICAT consulting is commonly used for:

    • Office and workplace environments

    • Government and secure facilities

    • Conference and collaboration spaces

    • Museums, cultural institutions, and public venues

    • Healthcare and research facilities

    • Education and training environments

  • Typical services include:

    • Technology needs assessment

    • IT, communications, and AV system design

    • Infrastructure planning and standards development

    • Budget development and cost estimating

    • Tender and procurement support

    • Project management and implementation oversight

    • Commissioning and system verification

  • Traditional IT consulting focuses primarily on network infrastructure and computing systems. ICAT consulting takes a broader approach by coordinating IT, communications platforms, and AV technologies into a unified technology ecosystem for facilities and collaboration spaces.

  • By integrating technology planning with building design and operational requirements, ICAT consulting helps:

    • reduce costly redesigns or retrofits

    • ensure systems are compatible and scalable

    • improve user experience in meeting and collaboration spaces

    • enhance reliability and security

    • deliver technology environments that support long-term organizational needs
