Considering New Technology?

Need to understand the impact a new technology may have on your business and network?

Analog Sunset

The days of analog are waning.  What does this mean to your AV system?

Network Stabilization

Experiencing significant outages in an outdated environment, DVA was contacted by a local assisted-living facility to complete a comprehensive network infrastructure review of the existing networking infrastructure and make recommendations to bring the systems up to current standards.  The 400-bed facility was embracing technology and the outages were impacting their ability to provide core services to their residents.

A review of the systems revealed several significant issues that required immediate attention.

Network Audit

The audit represented our findings in several key areas including:

  • Data center
  • Cable plant
  • Switching environment
  • Server hardware and software
  • Network security
  • Environmental conditions
  • Power conditioning and back-up
  • Wireless technology
  • Traffic audit

Findings

A roadmap, comprehensive budget and schedule was presented to senior management, to bring the infrastructure up to current standards using a phased approach.

DVA also suggested that bi-weekly meetings be attended with senior staff from both organizations to spearhead all issues related to technology.

Work Undertaken

A week after presenting our findings, DVA was tasked with implementing the entire plan, which included:

  • Enhance network security
  • Replace legacy back-up systems and automate
  • Abandon terminal server environment in favour of desktop/laptop devices
  • Re-design IP scheme to allow for VLAN's
  • Reconfigure and/or replace failing servers
  • Re-engineer switching environment to bolster stability and redundancy, and improve speeds to edge devices
  • Re-engineer the wireless environment to improve services
  • Migrate applications to new hardware and update to latest release
  • Establishment of a Technology User Group to review issues and opportnuities presented by the new infrastructure, and employ specific matrices when considering new technologies

Benefits

  1. Rock-solid network security
  2. Stable network with automatic fail-over
  3. Increased speeds to user community enhancing productivity
  4. Improved reliability for local and remote users
  5. Updated software for users
  6. Effective backup strategy
  7. Relevant up-to-date network documentation
